Yes it is true, DARK SKIES has a new site and as we said the event is ON for June 19-22, 2008

The new site is on the Mojave Drums Site across the dam near Mead View Arizona about 50 miles due east of Las Vegas on 80 acres of PRIVATE LAND that is custom designed for special events like ours. It's a fantastic site in a dense and magical Joshua Tree forest at 3600 feet elevation with stunning views of the Lake Mead drainage and the Colorado Plateau. There are limited services nearby, and (drum roll please) no neighbors within earshot. Perhaps best of all is that we don't have to pay BLM and Lincoln County over $45,000 to use our public lands. Whoo hoo!

The site IS art car and RV friendly, it will accommodate many more people than we are putting on it and has plenty of room for theme camps, performance areas, and of course ART! It reminds us a lot of the vibe at Madre Grade Monastery where Xara was held in many ways, there be magic afoot here mateys, arrrrgh.

Fire may be an issue and we'll have more on that in the next week or so. As soon as we have some fire parameters we'll post them here.

The Core Team is going out to the site this Sunday morning for another look. After that we'll post the revised budget and announce ticket sales beginning hopefully by next weekend on March 29th.

What a long strange trip it's been. Pictures are definitely forthcoming, we just wanted to get this out immediately to let you know that we are definitely moving this event and that the dates are not changing.

Update: PICTURES!

They're not much more forthcoming than "Meadview" on the website, but based on the information given by Cameron (pictures) and other hints they drop, I believe the site to be about here 36.053189,-114.045199

I just want to point this out..... if your coming by way of Vegas like alot of us are.... this will be some useful information when crossing over the Dam!
Information retrieved from the Meadview site.

          Hoover Dam Advisory

          Hoover Dam traffic update
          bullet

Since April 15, 2002, Recreational Vehicles have been allowed to cross Hoover Dam if the vehicles and contents can be "easily inspected" (whatever that means!). If an officer at the Dam's checkpoints believes any vehicle is a threat, that vehicle will not be allowed to cross.
          bullet

Also note that you cannot transport more than 25 gallons of fuel in cans over the dam.
          bullet

Boats cannot approach closer than one-half mile to the dam on the downstream (river) side and approximately one mile on the upstream (reservoir) side.

Hoover Dam Bypass Project is a 3.5-mile corridor beginning at approximately milepost 2.2 in Clark County, Nevada and crossing the Colorado River approximately 1,500 feet downstream of the Hoover Dam, then terminating in Mojave County, Arizona near milepost 1.7 on U.S. 93. For more information go to www.hooverdambypass.org//

Dropping in for my weekly paruse of this tribe, hi everyone. Here's some answers, (hopefully).
Dont' bother looking for this site on Google Earth, the imagary sucks. However, if you search for the Mojave County AZ tax assessors office and input these numbers to their GIS map server you may have some luck
            35°56'9.40"N
            114° 6'8.20"W
We know it's the same weekend as AP in SD, but we announced our dates first, wah.
As long as they can see the contents of your truck they will let you across the dam.
Nudity is just fine on this site.
Fire may be an issue, we're treading extrememly carefully in this regards, more soon I promise.
We're hoping to begin ticket sales (FINALLY) this saturday at noon, it's probably gonna shake out around $60/$75/$90 (ish)
We're also probably going to cap it at 300 and have no gate sales, probably that is.
There are no neighbors within ear shot, we did another site survey yesterday and we are working on the map.

love to all, talk to you guys soon! C.
