Does anyone know how late the gates will be open till on thursday night. We'll probably get there after midnight so...

Sun, May 13, 2007 - 11:04 PMThe event officially begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday morning/late Thursday night, but there will Gate staff present beginning at noon on Thursday for those coming early for theme camp placement/set-up and volunteers. -

Mon, May 14, 2007 - 2:12 AMWhoa!!! The website just says that the gates open at 12:00pm on Thurs. 5/17, no other caveats. Are you saying that now we can't come in until after midnight? A number of people I know are planning to show up in the afternoon to get set up before dark. And I personally am taking an extra day off work to do just that as well. Please tell me this is just a little mix up or sumpin'. -

Define "camp". Can I come in and set up my camp? Or do you mean Theme Camp? If that's the case, what will you do if mobs of people who read on the website (and on their ticket for that matter!) that the event starts at 12:00pm Thurs. 5/17 show up starting at that time only to be told that they have to wait out the afternoon in the blazing sun and half the night before they can come in? They might be a little grumpy, I know I would be...

Mon, May 14, 2007 - 5:45 AMThursday noon is when we are letting people come in to setup their 'camps', which I personally defined as "a place for your shit to go while you're not using it". This is not just theme camps - anyone can come in through the gate @ 12:00p on Thursday. Theme camps can come on-site prior to that. I have two theme camps setup right now and a couple more coming out on Tuesday. But there will be staff onsite (i.e. me & my DSCP crew) from Tuesday on.
The offical sounding start time is per our stipulations with BLM. We will not have insurance, permits, closure borders or Law enforcement coverage prior to 12:01am on Friday - so fire performing, propane explosions, and pretty much everything that makes the event an event (aside from the people) are off limits. Basically, before 12:01am on Friday - you are taking advantage of camping on your public lands within the confine of what will be our event. -

Here is what really happens the week before:
Monday: Drive by shooting range - Whatever portion of the Icon is completed gets riddled with led. Go to the Icon and see if you can dig out some rounds. Makes great pendants.
Tuesday: Thermite n Propane melt - Ya light some Thermite or Magnesium with a flare and let it burn into a full propane cylinder - Makes a huge ass boom n fireball. Can you find the blast pits on the playa?
Wednesday: oxy-aceth beach ball & roman candle fight, followed by some redneck soccer. This is just plain ol' fun.
So when you get there on Thursday or Friday and the staff is all burnt out, now you know why.
